The order provides no extra funding but provides directives to Cabinet members.
President Joe Biden signed an executive order this week to expand the availability of both child care and senior care for American citizens. The order does not increase the budget for the services, but it does outline 50 orders directing almost every federal agency to clearly identify the grant programs and federal projects that can most benefit those seeking funding already available for child and elder care.
“The actions we’re taking today are about dignity, security, and peace of mind for working families and caregivers all across the country, and they’re good for the economy as well,” said President Biden, who shared his own struggles with caregiving as a single father after the death of his first wife.
According to White House Domestic Policy Council Director Susan Rice, Congress will need to allocate over $750 billion for the president’s initiatives over the next ten years.
